STRESZCZENIE: Opracowano dotychczas szereg metod badania zjawiska apoptozy, wyko­rzystujących różne techniki badawcze. Część z nich służy badaniom czynnościowym, po­głębiającym naszą wiedzę na temat biologii procesu apoptozy, czy mechanizmów jej aktywacji. W ostatnich latach obserwuje się rozwój metod umożliwiających identyfikację komórki apoptotycznej oraz ilościowy pomiar zjawiska apoptozy. W tym zakresie techniką badawczą ,,z wyboru" stała się cytometria przepływowa, uzupełniona niedawno o laserową cytometrię skaningową, umożliwiająca między innymi weryfikację morfologiczną pomiarów. Poniżej przedstawiono przegląd współcześnie stosowanych metod służących do wykrywania i pomiaru apoptozy, w tym opracowaną niedawno metodę opartą na wykrywaniu aktywacji kaspaz za pomocą ich fluorogennych inhibitorów (FLICA).

SUMMARY: Several methods have been developed to assess the process of apoptosis. Several methods were introduced and applied to study biology of apoptosis, mechanisms of its induction and activation of apoptotic and cell survival pathways. Recently, there was a significant development of techniques designed for identification of apoptotic cells and quantitative evaluation of this process. Flow cytometry and, more recently, laser scanning cytometry, the latter providing possibility for visual inspection of measured cells, have became methods of choice in this field. This review covers the most important methods of detection and measurement of apoptosis, including the newly developed assay with fluorochrome labeled inhibitors of caspases (FLICA)
